Friday 17th April, as I sit at my desk thinking about what I want to write today, the following question pops into my head:
What do I miss, after been in isolation and working from home for the last few weeks?
•I miss seeing and being with my son and having our weekly Tuesday dinners (this then reminded me of the wonderful book titled “Tuesdays with Morrie”; I found a free copy online, see the link below if you want to read/re-read it)
•I miss my brother
•I miss my friends
•I miss going out for dinner on Friday evenings
•I miss Sunday family lunches
•I miss getting dressed up to go to the office; I seem to be hanging out now in leggings and long sleeved t-shirts
•I miss wearing my shoes; am now walking around either in my bedroom slippers or takkies
•I miss driving my car
•I miss having my hair blow-waved
•I miss my Ballito holiday home and I miss the beach
•I miss walking around the mall and popping into Woolies and Zara
I’m well aware as a I scan this list that some of these are very materialistic and “first world” but most of the things I miss are the connections and experiences.

Our Focus determines our Reality
And then I came across this post, posted yesterday on social media by Graeme Codrington who is a SA futurist. Talk about – Our Focus is our Reality. Here’s another perspective:
“If this was a world war, we would not be asking when will be allowed to go out and get a haircut.
If this was a world war, we would not be asking when the kids will go back to school or how this academic year will be completed.
If this was a world war, we would not be asking about the impact on our economy. We’d be asking “are we winning or losing the war?”
If this was a world war, we would be asking “when does this end?”And the answer would be: when the enemy is defeated.
The enemy is Covid-19. This is a world war.”
I’m grateful that I’m safe at home, I’m healthy, I have a loving husband, I have meaningful work to occupy my time and I’m still able to contribute and do so much. I’m resilient and have adapted to this “new normal” as have so many other people throughout the world. To conclude with my mantra:
I am happy
I am blessed
I am enough
